Jacob's Day At The Zoo

Jacob is taking a Marine Biology class this semester in school and it has become his new passion. He is utterly and completely interested in anything having to do with fish and their life cycle. So much so that for his birthday this year he got an aquarium. He is constantly on the lookout for something new to add and so far only about 10 or so of the fish have died :). That's ok though...it is getting better every day and PetSmart is right up the road so they are easily replaced. This past week Jacob and his class had the opportunity to go to the Pt. Defiance zoo and get a sort of behind the scene tour. They have a great shark display there and they also have a large enclosure that shows the environment and eco-system of Puget Sound. I think he would have an entirely different perspective on snorkeling in the Caribbean now. Last time we were there he was totally scared. Now he is super excited to go again in the spring and is studying up on the different types of fish there. We are even considering possibly becoming PADI certified prior to our trip so we can really see some different things. I am excited that he is excited to do that!

Here are a few pictures and observations from his trip:
The male walrus weighs as much as our pick-up truck.
The penguin enclosure smells really bad.
It is super cool to feed jelly-fish.
Beluga whales know how to do tricks.
And polar bears look huggable but are huge and scarey!
